Kobelco PREMIARC DW-308L is a premium, rutile-type stainless steel flux-cored welding wire (FCAW) engineered by Kobe Steel. It is one of the most widely used stainless steel flux-cored wires in the world, renowned for its exceptional arc stability and smooth bead appearance when joining standard austenitic stainless steels.
Technical Classifications & Settings
AWS Classification: E308LT1-1 or E308LT1-4 (under AWS A5.22).
EN ISO Standard: EN ISO 17633-A T 19 9 L P C1 1 (or M21 1).
Shielding Gas Options: Optimized to run with either 100% CO? (suffix -1) or a 75%–80% Argon + Balance CO? mixed gas blend (suffix -4).
Operating Polarity: Runs on DCEP (Direct Current Electrode Positive / DC+).
Welding Positions: An all-position wire capable of flat, horizontal, overhead, and vertical-up operations.
Target Materials
The "L" designation indicates a low carbon content (? 0.04%), which minimizes carbide precipitation and ensures high resistance to intergranular corrosion.
It is explicitly designed for welding:
AISI 304 and 304L stainless steel plates, pipes, and structures.
AISI 301, 302, and 305 grades.
Stabilized grades like AISI 321 (when service temperatures do not exceed 340°C).
Key Performance Benefits
Moisture-Resistant Flux: The internal core uses a specialized flux formulation that resists moisture absorption, minimizing the risk of hydrogen-induced porosity.
Self-Peeling Slag: Features a fast-freezing rutile slag that completely blankets the bead and typically cracks and lifts off on its own as it cools, drastically reducing post-weld cleanup time.
Spatter-Free Arc: Delivers a highly stable, soft spray arc transition with virtually zero flying spatter, which prevents unsightly spatter balls from sticking to surrounding polished stainless surfaces.
Controlled Ferrite Content: Formulated to maintain a targeted Ferrite Number (typically 3 to 8 FN), providing excellent resistance to hot cracking during solidification.
