Kobelco TG-S1CM is a premium solid TIG (GTAW) welding rod within Kobelco's TRUSTARC series.
It is heavily utilized for high-temperature, low-alloy creep-resisting steel applications and aligns with the AWS A5.28 ER80S-B2 classification (often dual-classified as ER80S-B2Mn or ER80S-G depending on the regional market's specific chemical composition optimization).
Key Specifications & Applications
Target Materials: Engineered explicitly for welding 1.25% Chromium and 0.5% Molybdenum creep-resistant steels. It is widely used to join ASTM A387 Grade 11, A335 Grade P11 pipes, and A213 Grade T11 boiler tubes.
Metallurgical Design: Formulated with strict controls on carbon, phosphorus, and sulfur while maintaining a higher manganese level. This design maximizes the molten pool's fluidity and significantly enhances hot cracking resistance during critical root-pass welding.
Welding Process: Handled via Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW / TIG), operating strictly on Direct Current Electrode Negative (DCEN) polarity.
Shielding Gas Requirements: Requires 100% Pure Argon gas for the torch shield. Purging with argon on the reverse side of the root pass is highly recommended to protect the back bead from oxidation.
Common Use Cases: Extensively used for root and fill passes in high-pressure steam boilers, power plant piping systems, and petroleum refinery process lines.
