Kobelco TG-S5CM is a premium solid TIG (GTAW) welding rod within Kobelco's TRUSTARC / FAMILIARC series.
It is engineered specifically for high-temperature, creep-resistant low-alloy steels and conforms strictly to the AWS A5.28 ER80S-B6 industry classification (previously classified under older standards as ER502).
Key Specifications & Applications
Target Materials: Formulated explicitly for joining 5% Chromium – 0.5% Molybdenum heat-resistant steels. It is heavily utilized to weld ASTM A387 Grade 5 plates, ASTM A335 P5 pipes, and ASTM A213 T5 boiler/heat-exchanger tubes.
Chemical Profile: Contains approximately 5.5% Chromium (Cr) and 0.55% Molybdenum (Mo). This specific chemistry delivers outstanding structural stability, scaling resistance, and long-term creep rupture strength at high operational limits.
Welding Process: Handled via Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW / TIG), operating on Direct Current Electrode Negative (DCEN) polarity.
Shielding Gas Requirements: Requires 100% Pure Argon gas for the torch shield. To ensure a clean root bead and prevent back-side atmospheric oxidation, an Argon gas back-purge is mandatory during the initial root-pass run.
Common Use Cases: Extensively specified for critical pipe routing, pressure vessels, and headers in oil refineries, chemical processing plants, and power generation facilities where aggressive high-temperature environments are present.
