Kobelco - TIG Wire - ER80S-B8

Kobelco TG-S9CM (often designated in specific inventory lists simply as TG-9CM) is a high-performance solid TIG (GTAW) welding rod from Kobelco's TRUSTARC series. It conforms exactly to the AWS A5.28 ER80S-B8 international standard.

Target Materials: Specifically designed for welding 9% Chromium – 1% Molybdenum low-alloy, heat- and creep-resistant steels.
It is the benchmark filler metal used to join ASTM A335 Grade P9 pipes, ASTM A213 Grade T9 boiler tubes, and ASTM A387 Grade 9 structural steel plates.
Chemical Profile: The deposited weld chemistry features a precise blend of 8.0–10.5% Chromium (Cr) and 0.85–1.10% Molybdenum (Mo). This high chromium level gives the joint exceptional scaling and oxidation resistance under high thermal operating stresses.
Welding Parameters: Handled via Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW / TIG), operating on Direct Current Electrode Negative (DCEN) polarity using a 100% Pure Argon torch shield. An Argon back-purge gas is essential during root passes to safeguard the backside of the joint from atmospheric oxidation.
Common Use Cases: Widely deployed for high-integrity root and fill passes in petrochemical refinery cracking units, chemical distillation plants, and high-pressure steam distribution headers operating up to 600°C.
