Tungsten Electrode Sieco WT20 Red

WT20 Thoriated Tungsten Electrode is an industrial-grade TIG welding needle. Identified globally by its Red color code tip, it is doped with 2% thorium oxide (ThO?). It is the most widely used electrode for high-amperage Direct Current (DC) TIG welding.

The WT20 electrode is favored by professional fabricators due to its exceptional arc stability, high current-carrying capacity, and low burn-off rate. The addition of 2% thorium oxide lowers the work function of the tungsten, allowing it to emit electrons easily.

This results in instant, reliable High-Frequency (HF) arc striking even at lower starting voltages.Because it operates far below its melting threshold, the needle maintains a sharp ground tip profile for long periods without splitting or "spitting" tungsten into the weld pool.

It is optimized exclusively for DC TIG welding (DCEN / straight polarity) on structural carbon steels, stainless steel pipe joints, nickel alloys, copper, and titanium structures.

Note: Due to the trace radioactivity of the thorium dopant, always use local exhaust extraction or a dedicated dust-collection grinder when sharpening the needle tip.
