WLa20 Lanthanated Tungsten Electrode is a premium, non-radioactive TIG welding electrode doped with 2% lanthanum oxide. Identified globally by its Blue color code tip, it is widely recognized as one of the most versatile and durable alternatives to hazardous thoriated (red) electrodes.
The WLa20 (often classified as EWLa-2 or WL20) is an all-purpose electrode engineered to deliver exceptional results across both Alternating Current (AC) and Direct Current (DC) TIG welding. It is highly valued in automated robotic lines, orbital pipe welding, and precision manual shops because it maintains its tip geometry over long welding cycles.
The 2% lanthanum oxide doping decreases the electron work function, allowing the electrode to strike an arc easily and reliably at very low voltages. When used in DC mode, it retains a sharp ground point under high thermal stress without splitting. When switched to AC mode for aluminum fabrication, it naturally forms a stable, uniform balled tip (calotte) that keeps the arc from wandering.
Because it contains zero radioactive materials, grinding it creates standard metallic dust that is safe to handle, providing a healthier working environment.
